Hear No Evil - Chapter 22

The next morning, Jack woke up to the smell of coffee along with the unmistakable aroma of bacon and eggs. Getting to his feet, he rubbed his eyes and walked towards the kitchen, freezing in the doorway. He swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat and leaned against the doorframe for support. Sue was standing by the kitchen counter barefoot wearing a pair of his old running shorts and the hockey jersey that she had bought him. Her hair was now pulled back into a loose ponytail. He’d never seen her look so beautiful.

She moved smoothly round the kitchen and amazed him how she instinctively knew where everything was. The cups, plates, cutlery, everything was laid out on the counter and she worked to scramble the eggs and checked that the coffee was percolating nicely.

I could get used to this. Jack found himself thinking. Waking up to see Sue in his kitchen was definitely something that he could see himself becoming accustomed to. He let his gaze linger on her long legs and then moved up her body to rest on her slender neck. His lips ached to touch the soft skin and he knew that there was a particular sensitive spot that made her putty in his hands.

As he started to let his thoughts get the better of him, Sue turned to get something from one of the drawers and saw him watching her.

“Hey Jack, hope you like your eggs scrambled, they are almost ready.” She said as she smiled.
“Yes I do, everything smells great.”
“Why thank you Jack. I enjoy cooking. It relaxes me.” She said as she turned back to the eggs.

Jack took a few steps closer to her so that he stood less than a foot away. He slowly slid his arms around her waist and clasped them together on her belly. He had half expected her to move away but she remained in the same position as he rested his chin on her shoulder, tilting his head so that she could read him.

“Shall I tell you what relaxes me?” Sue raised an eyebrow in response. “Falling asleep with you in my arms. That is something that I will never tire of.”

He smiled when he saw the colour rise in her cheeks at his admission. A few days ago he wouldn’t have dreamt of telling her these things. He was so pleased that he had finally taken that step and asked her out on that date. He hadn’t been this happy in years. In fact, he didn’t think he’d ever been this happy.

“I liked that too. Now, the coffee is done so can you pour two cups and take them through, I shall bring breakfast through in a minute.”

Jack released his hold on her and placed a small kiss on the tip of her nose. Pouring the coffee, he added the necessary milk and sugar and took the two cups through to the living area, casting another glance in her direction as he did so. Seeing her wearing his clothes was having an almost overpowering effect on him and he knew that it was all he could do to keep his hands off her. As he sat down, Sue came in with two plates piled high with bacon and scrambled eggs.

They ate breakfast in a comfortable silence, each sneaking sly glances at the other when they thought they weren’t watching. Sue was having difficulty believing what she was doing. She was sitting in Jack’s living room wearing his clothes after sleeping in his bed eating breakfast with him. She toyed with the idea of pinching herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

It really was happening. She was beginning a relationship with Jack Hudson. The man she had admired from afar for almost two years. The man she wanted but never thought she would ever be able to have in her life as more than just a friend. All he had to do was look at her with his deep brown eyes and she would give him anything he wanted, do anything for him.

She watched him eat his breakfast. His movements were very gentle for a man, graceful even. There was slight stubble on his face as he hadn’t shaved the day before. It suited him, gave him a rugged look that Sue found incredibly sexy. His hair waa ruffled and she smiled as it reminded her of their undercover assignment. She’d told him then that she liked it that way and her opinion hadn’t changed.

Finishing off her coffee, she picked up her plate and coffee cup and returned them to the kitchen. She returned to see Jack had finished eating and he was sat in his seat watching her. She walked over to him to take away his now empty plate but was stopped by his hand on her arm. She turned to face him.

“Leave them, they can wait. I want to tell you something.”

Before she could protest, Jack had pulled her down to sit on his lap. His arms went round her waist to stop her from moving. Her right hand rested on his shoulder, her other lay lightly on the arm he had wrapped around her.

“Sue, last night I realised something. I had a lot of time to think because there was no way that I was going to be sleeping knowing you were asleep in my bed.” Sue blushed at his little confession. “I have never felt like this about anyone before Sue. None of my other girlfriends have meant as much to me as you do. I would do anything to make you happy and can only hope that you feel the same about me.”

Sue bought her hand up to gently caress his cheek. She smiled when she thought what she wanted to tell him about the stubble that lay there and decided that this wasn’t the moment. She looked into his eyes and smiled warmly.

“I do Jack. I have cared deeply about you for so long now. I feel the same way. No one has even come close to taking as much of my heart as you have.”

He returned her smile with one of his own and she was sure that her heart would stop at any moment. He slowly moved closer, trying to read the look in her eyes just before his lashes closed and his lips covered hers. Her mouth opened willingly with no resistance as he breathed in her whole being.

Her emotions were all over the place and she found herself feeling that nothing else mattered except for them and that moment. She needed to taste him, touch him, to have him want her as much as she wanted him. The urgency became almost too much to bear and she let out a soft moan and she felt his reaction as he pulled her body closer to his.

He felt her hands against his face, running through his hair, pulling him closer, until there was nothing between them but the thin material of their clothes. His own hands settled on her waist as his lips left hers to nibble on her right ear. She jumped as unexpected but welcome sensations raced through her body, her nerve endings tingled at the slightest touch. What is he doing to me? Her hands moved from his face and clung to his broad shoulders as she let herself get lost in the sensations that he was creating within her.

His mouth left her ear and trailed a path of kisses along the side of her neck and her throat. He felt the vibrations in her chest and continued his onslaught on her neck. His fingers lightly trailed up and down the silky smooth skin of her bare thigh.

Because of the attention he was giving her, he hadn’t noticed that her hands had moved from his shoulders and were at his waist. He could tell that she was getting restless and it took several moments for him to realise that she was tugging at his shirt, freeing it from his jeans. He felt her smile against his lips when her hands achieved their goal and her hands touched his bare flesh, her fingernails grazing the solid muscles of his stomach.

Alarm bells went off in his head when he realised what was happening. Groaning in frustration he lifted his head, kissing her lightly on the mouth before pulling away completely. Stopping was the last thing that he wanted to do but he knew that he had to. Her lips were red and swollen from his kisses and he could see the redness on her neck where his lips had earlier been. He reached out to touch her neck and felt her shudder as his fingers made contact with her skin.

His eyes darkened in response and he wanted nothing more than to pull her back to him and resume their exploits but he was scared that he wouldn’t be able to stop himself and he knew that she wanted to wait until her wedding night.

Sue swallowed. Her mouth and throat had suddenly become very dry and her breathing was erratic to say the least. She had never seen Jack look at her that way. Her breath quickened and she was suddenly certain that if he kissed her again she wouldn’t resist. She had surprised herself when she had pulled at his t-shirt, suddenly feeling an urgency to touch him. If he hadn’t been the one to stop, then she didn’t think that she would have been able to. Just being close to him like this sent her senses into spiralling out of control.

“That was incredible, you are incredible and I can’t believe I waited so long to experience that.” He confessed with an uncharacteristically shy smile.
“As much as I want to stay here with you, I think I should be going back to my place.” Sue said as her hands continued to play with the hairs at the nape of his neck.
“I think you are right. I don’t think I can control myself with your around for much longer, at least not when we are alone.” Jack said, feeling his body react to her simple yet tantalising caresses.
“Well how about we go somewhere where we aren’t on our own?” She suggested.
“Where did you have in mind?” He asked.
“Well……” she said as she slid further onto his lap, her arms tightening around his neck as hers did around her waist, “……you did say you would take me to that ice rink that we saw yesterday.”
“I did? I don’t recall.” Jack said, feigning hurt when she lightly slapped him on the arm. “I take it you would like to go today?” She nodded enthusiastically and he couldn’t help but laugh at her. “Okay, but I need to change and then we need to take you home first. You can’t exactly go skating in an evening dress.”

Reluctantly, Sue released her hold on him and stood as he did the same. He quickly pressed is lips to hers before vanishing into the bathroom to freshen up. He picked up his empty coffee mug and breakfast plate and took them into the kitchen. Placing them into the dishwasher, she leaned against the counter and lifted her hand to touch her lips. She couldn’t stop the smile spreading to her lips as she realised that if this most recent kiss was anything to go by, she was in for one of the best experiences of her life.
