The Runaway Groom - Chapter 11

After leaving Jack’s, Sue had returned to her apartment. After changing out of her wedding outfit, she’d packed a bag with clothes for a few days, knowing that she would arrange to have the rest shipped to her at a later date.

She’d called around all the airports but none had a flight leaving for Ohio that evening. The only other choice was by coach, but they were reluctant to let Levi travel, so she’d decided to drive. After packing up the trunk of her car, she returned to the apartment. Taking a few minutes to take one last look around, she wrote a note for Lucy, knowing that her friend would worry if she didn’t at least tell her where she was. She decided not to go into too much detail.

When she was ready, she grabbed her purse, clipped Levi’s leash to his collar and took a deep breath. After unclipping here apartment key from her key chain, she left if on the note for Lucy and left the apartment.

She’d been driving for a little over an hour and it was starting to get dark. Levi had settled on the back seat and she was headed in the direction of Ohio. She knew that this was a major step she was taking. She was giving up her life in DC, her career all because of three little words that Jack had said to her.

She knew that she longed to see those words on his lips, and under any other circumstances, she would be back in DC with him. But, knowing what heartache had been caused to others, she couldn’t be with Jack, not now, no matter how much she loved him in return.

She knew she would miss the friends she’d made in DC, and she promised herself that she would keep in touch with them all, but seeing Jack almost everyday would be too hard. In Ohio, she would get over him, her feelings for him would fade and she could get on with her life. At least, she hoped she could.
